Description

  • Tatted Lace gift card measures 3.5" x 5"
  • Blank inside
  • Each of these note cards is a hand drawn original by artist Chris Rush who lives in Pennsylvania. She incorporates a piece of her tatted lace as an embellishment on each card.
  • All of these note cards are handmade in the USA
  • Traditional tatting is made by looping and knotting a single cotton or silk thread using a small hand shuttle. Since before Victorian times, tatted lace has added elegance to collars, handkerchiefs, doilies, altar cloths and other fine linens.

The History of Tatting
Tatting is related to a technique of rope looping and knotting originally used by sailors, fishermen and net makers traceable as far back as ancient Egypt. Some historians maintain that tatting as a form of lace making began more than 200 years ago in France where it was called frivolite. Others believe it originated in Italy (chicchicchanario) or in German (schiffchenarbeit).
